Michal Mitro - Driving Home For Christmas

17. 11. 2023 — 18. 2. 2024

IGLOO sound gallery
Komenského 10, Jihlava
curator Miloš Vojtěchovský

The site- and time-specific intervention for Igloo was inspired by the disassembled body of a vehicle that someone left in a shed on the steep Brno plot of the former gardener's colony, where Michal Mitro lives and works. A decomposed relic of a mechanism symbolizing the acceleration of the movement of bodies, goods and thoughts, turns into a doleful object in a dark cellar. It refers to modernity's dream of the innocence of the moment of acceleration, unlimited mobility, economic growth and carefree comfort. In the second plan, also about the carbon footprint, environmental issues and the interconnectedness of the music, automotive, and fossil business.

The adventure of their paintings begins in places, moments and situations known and overlooked. And yet, or perhaps precisely because of that, they are provocative, disturbing, beautiful.

Boredom is an inseparable companion of life. Boredom is everywhere, but no one is bored here. Boredom is an all-encompassing state that covers the entire horizon, perfectly. That's why it's so annoying. Boredom consumes our being, we feel that we cannot escape it. It is our ability to concentrate that it attacks.

This time it is a set of sound recordings from Jihlava and it presents a wide spectrum of vibrations of the Vysočina transformers (however, all belong to the dominion of ČEZ company and are interconnected to the pan-european electricity distribution system). One channel of each set complements the sonic ambient from particular location of individual transformers so one can hear as well cars, birds or wind.

Alternativa gallery
Komenského 10
curator Radek Wohlmuth

The project of Alessandra Svatek (1979) – a painter who cannot bring herself to use colors, takes the form of a symbolic journey in the sense of visual introspection. Although she looks back through her spatial installation, her focus is not on memories, but on her own overcome beliefs, which she gradually tests on herself over the years.
