Cultural institutions for schools
Cultural institutions for schools

This time, the meeting of educators and representatives of cultural institutions took place at the Documentary Film Center.

On their own initiative, colleagues from the Documentary Film Center (CDF) organized a presentation of educational programs of Jihlava cultural institutions for teachers. This meeting is regularly held at the end of the school year as part of the presentation of programs of the Incubator, which is under the umbrella of the city council. However, recently, not many teachers have participated in this event. An incredible 26 teachers reported for the February meeting in the Silver House at the CDF, and most of them actually showed up.

The aim of the meeting was to introduce teachers to the offer of educational activities of Jihlava cultural institution, for example, the Documentary Film Center (CDF), the Jihlava Architectural Manual (JAM), the Gustav Mahler House or the Dukla Cinema. I must say that all of the aforementioned institutions offer schools a wide range of programs. Colleagues from JAM and the Dukla Cinema have started to engage in education relatively recently, but they already have valuable educational potential. I was therefore very pleased with the offer to present the OGV, even though the gallery is under reconstruction. Our current motto is not to lose contact with educators even during the closure of both buildings, so it is important for us to make ourselves known. To show schools that even during the reconstruction it is possible to order an educational program from us. Even if to a very limited extent.

After the presentation of Jihlava's cultural institutions, there was free time for refreshments and networking – connecting with each other. I must say that I did not expect an offer of cooperation from the participating teachers, since our current situation is really complicated. Nevertheless, several of them contacted me and it looks like we will be able to establish cooperation. It was actually nice that the teachers were interested in how the reconstruction is going and when it will be possible to come to us with their students again.

After approximately sixty minutes of networking, a demonstration class of Filmouka took place, which focuses on the basic concepts for understanding film and audiovisual. I already knew the lecturer Lucie Hlavicová, who led it and presented the company. Last year, at this time, I participated in a seminar organized by colleagues from GHMP called Film and audiovisual in education. It was great, and I am very happy that there is interest in Filmouka and other projects in the field of audiovisual education. This was also visible in the CDF, because educators applied in large numbers for the programs offered.

A meeting like this makes sense to me. Communication, discussion, and networking are important for our work. Many thanks to Lenka, Síma, Přemek, and Šimon for the great organization and for the invitation!
