Today's day is focused on spreading information about how to properly care for our hearing.

World Hearing Day is a campaign of the World Health Organization, which has been held since 2015. However, since 2007, a similar event has been held under the name International Ear Care Day. The main goal of the event is to raise awareness about how to prevent deafness and hearing loss, and how to promote ear and hearing care.
In addition, the event has a different theme every year, the World Health Organization publishes educational materials that are freely available in several languages. At the same time, various accompanying activities are held around the world, such as thematic lectures, demonstrations, and many health facilities offer free hearing tests.

Hearing loss can be caused by a number of factors. In addition to genetic factors, it can also be caused by various diseases, injuries, or working in a noisy environment and using audio equipment loudly.
So don't neglect taking care of your ears! Protect yourself from loud noises and have your hearing checked regularly. And of course, we must not forget to support people who have been affected by hearing loss, whether partial or complete.

For this day, we have chosen the sculpture Jiří Malý from the gallery's collections, created by sculptor Jiří Ducháček (1903–1974). He first trained as a stonemason, but in 1925 he was admitted to the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where he studied sculpture under the guidance of Karel Dvořák, Josef Mařatka and Karel Štipl. He graduated in 1932. In addition to sculpture, he also designed medals and published texts. His main focus was portrait busts. The OGV collections also include his sculptural portrait of the painter Emil Kotrba. He married his classmate from the Academy, the sculptor Věra Beránková.
