After the success of the travel day camp, which we resorted to due to the ongoing renovation of the gallery, the gallery educator Pavlína decided to continue the educational excursions in the form of one-day Saturday trips.
The very first stop was quite traditional – it took us to the capital. But this trip was actually chosen by the children themselves. Already during the day camp, when we visited the Museum of Ethnography and the Arts and Crafts Museum in Prague, they showed interest in visiting another traditional place – the National Museum. And of course we had to fulfill their wishes. ☺
Already while waiting for the bus in Jihlava, the children received important materials for the entire trip from us – a worksheet regarding their knowledge of the places we planned to visit, a letter from Kaspar Maria von Sternberg, and a magnifying glass!
We started our visit to the museum at the very top – in the dome, then moved one floor down to The Miracles of Evolution exhibit, and then another floor down to the Windows into Prehistory exhibit. We ended our visit to the exhibits in the Halls of Minerals.
In the very end, we found ourselves in the Pantheon of the National Museum, which is full of statues and busts of important Czechs. Here the children had an important task – to find the statue of Kaspar Maria von Sternberg, one of the founders of the National Museum and an important naturalist of the first half of the 19th century. We then stopped by his statue and together we read a letter that he "wrote" to the children (of course the letter was prepared by our educator Pavlína ☺), and from which they learned important information not only about his life, but also about the time in which he lived.
After a snack, which we ate in the beautiful hall of the museum cafe, we headed towards the Old Town Square, where we had booked a tour of the Old Town Hall. There we were met by a friendly guide, Petr, who showed us around the town hall. We visited the chapel with a view of the apostles rotating on the clock, the historical halls, but also the underground of the town hall. The last stop was the tower of the Old Town Hall with a breathtaking view of the whole of Prague.
Since we still had some time before the bus left, the children decided to visit the department store quickly. And then we set off in the direction of the Florenc bus station. In the bus to Jihlava, the children realized that due to the busy schedule we forgot to do the last activity, for which everyone got a small magnifying glass in the morning. With it, they were supposed to find some interesting pattern in Prague, and they were supposed to put on paper its enlargement. But it doesn't matter! They can also search and enlarge at home...
