The Vysočina Regional Gallery in Jihlava prepared, in cooperation with the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín, an exhibition of Max Švabinský, a key representative of the Czech art scene at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The project, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of this versatile artist and educator, focuses on his extensive graphic work, which is part of the collections of both galleries.

The concept of the exhibition focuses on the richness of his graphic expression, which is followed in several thematic units. Švabinský's impressive landscape ensembles will be presented together with large enlivening details of nature, portraits of leading cultural figures and closest family members, intimate sensual scenes alongside more elaborate mythological scenes or also biblical themes and paraphrases of poetry collections.

The exhibition also provides a broader view of Max Švabinský's pedagogical contribution, when he led the graphic arts school at the Prague Academy between 1910 and 1928 and significantly influenced the next generation of up-and-coming artists. His former students and many established artists, such as Cyril Bouda, Koloman Sokol, Miloslav Holý and others, are therefore selectively represented at the exhibition.
