For this year's last trip for children, we went to Jindřichův Hradec. While planning this trip, we were pleasantly surprised by the good train connection – without a transfer and in an hour and a little we were there. Unlike the trip to Kutná Hora, we were also lucky to have a half-empty train (on the way there and back), so we could sit nicely in the compartments in such a way that everyone had their own comfort.
The children were traditionally given a knowledge quiz related to the place we were going to, which they could complete during the trip. Right on time, at 9 a.m., we got off in Jindřichův Hradec. We made the short, approximately 20-minute walk to our first stop more interesting by stopping in front of the Church of St. Catherine, specifically at the stone cross, on the sides of which stand Baroque statues of St. John of Nepomuk and St. Theodore, where we also lit a memorial candle.
And then we went straight to our main destination, the Tapestry House. There we had a pre-arranged program. To start, the children tried weaving on a peg loom. They then made a wreath from the woven strip, which they decorated with a ribbon. Then we were given a tour of the museum – we watched videos (an animated, humorous video about the origin of Jindřichův Hradec and later also a video about the extraction and processing of wool), visited the restoration workshop, where we had the opportunity to see a restorer at work, and some of the museum's exhibitions. Many thanks to Mrs. Petra Mašková and her colleagues for the great and rich program they prepared for us!
In the afternoon, we moved to the Museum of Jindřichův Hradec. On the way, we still managed to take a picture at the 15th meridian. In the museum, we first went to see the Krýza Nativity Scene and then the children were treated to a program prepared by our educator Pavlína. First, we went together to the exhibition dedicated to the opera singer Ema Destinnová, where the children got to know this important Czech personality better, and then they went to explore the museum on their own using a worksheet with simple tasks. Time flew by quickly, so unfortunately we did not have the opportunity to explore the entire museum. At the end, we just quickly popped into the short-term exhibition Ladies, the Ball Season is Beginning, where the children (in our case, all girls except for one exception) could create their own dress design using the prepared materials on a template.
And then it was really time to head towards the train station. On the way, we managed to visit the popular St. Florian aqua show and, completely unplanned, the local pizzeria, because some (most) of the children suddenly got very hungry. :-)
This time too, the program was very packed, so much so that some children requested a train compartment with the lights off on the return trip and slept the entire journey to Jihlava.
We are very happy that our third trip was a success (judging by the positive feedback that the children always fill out anonymously on the way back). In December, we will take a break from traveling and are already looking forward to January, when we will have a trip to Tábor during the mid-term school holidays.
